My Story, Passion & Purpose

What I’m passionate about

As you can see, I’m pretty passionate about photography and creative expression. In fact, all the images in this website are my own, except for this one of course. My wife, Bonnie took this one. She has been an artist most of her life but only took up the camera as her medium of creative expression after we moved to the mountains of Western NC in 2005.

But, I’m also passionate about being an agent of transformation to bring more creativity, integrity, authenticity and sustainability into the world of entrepreneurship and business as a whole. Essentially this means more “whole brain thinking” that recognizes as Teilhard de Chardin wrote, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

My creative journey

My creative pursuits began with learning the trumpet, and playing first chair position in bands, orchestras and small ensembles through high school and my first two years of college. I had been exploring photography (yes in the days of film) from the age of eight. So when one of my college music teachers introduced me to the magic of printing photos in a chemical darkroom I was hooked. I very soon switched colleges and majors to get a BFA degree in photography from Rochester Institute of Technology.

The RIT photography Department Chair told those of us who wanted to be photographic artists (yes, like Ansel Adams, Minor White, Elliott Porter, Henri Cartier-Bresson and many of the other great names of the time), “don’t expect to find a career as an artist after you graduate”. He was a smart man, but we didn’t care. We were pursuing our passion and didn’t much worry about a career, I’m afraid.

My life philosophy

I was also serious about finding answers to the more philosophical questions about life and my place in the grander scheme of things. So I had begun Transcendental Meditation while in college, and upon graduation went off to study with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (yes the teacher who the Beatles studied with in India). Luckily Maharishi was teaching courses by that time in the US and Europe, so I didn’t have to go to India for my studies. This was a transformational experience for me, and truly did help me find a place of inner centering and silence that still serves me over 40 years later.

I taught TM as my profession for almost 5 years, along with Bonnie who became my wife in 1976. But one day, Bonnie informed me that she was pregnant and “you need to get a real job, Chris!”

So that was the beginning of what became a successful 30+ year career in sales and business development. But I have never lost my grounding in a more creative and spiritual approach to life and the world of business.

For over 22 years I have been a top sales producer for Human Factors International, Inc. (HFI), a global User Experience (UX) training, research & design firm. I was the first and only sales executive with the firm to achieve the Certified Usability Analyst (CUA) qualification through attending our own 10-day training and passing the rigorous 2-hour online exam. In June 2016, I transitioned to working part time for HFI as an independent sales agent and Global Accounts Executive. I maintain this role while openly conducting my CreativityInBiz consulting practice since January 2017.

For me, the creative spark within human consciousness is the source of all our power to invent, innovate and manifest the life that we dream of living, and this is the mindset that I bring to my consulting to help you “unleash your creativity at work and play”.

So that’s who I am at a more personal level than you might have expected to learn from my “About” page!

What a Colleague Says…

“I worked with Chris for more than 10 years and have the highest regard as a professional and individual. He is a stellar sales executive – strategic, organized, thoughtful, and effective. He repeatedly exceeds his sales quota and has been the firm’s top seller countless times.

Chris’s credentials and palmares are excellent professionally, but his success extends to and comes in part from his philosophical views on life within and beyond work. I have complete trust in Chris professionally and personally. He is an asset to any organization or group.”

Jerome Nadel, Former Chief Experience Officer, Human Factors International, Inc.

What a Mentor Says…

“Chris Allen is one of the most genuine and gifted persons I have met. His personal integrity runs very deep: he walks his talk like few others. Consequently, he has created immeasurable success, witnessed untold empowerment and manifested magnetic dynamism throughout his remarkable career.

His secret, I truly believe, is his soulfulness. Like few others, Chris has uncovered and mastered the fine art of infusing “soul” into sales, business and relationships. It can become your secret also, and you can learn how from Chris.”
